Powdered materials often consist of fine particles that can become airborne easily or escape through small gaps. When Flexible Bulk Containers are used to package, store, and transport these materials, unsuitable container construction, defective seams, or improper handling may result in powder leakage, dust generation, and material loss. To improve packaging performance, attention should be given to container selection, filling procedures, closure methods, and subsequent handling and storage.

First, select a Flexible Bulk Container that is suitable for the properties of the powdered material. Different powders vary in particle size, flow characteristics, moisture sensitivity, and tendency to generate dust. These differences affect their packaging requirements. For fine powders that can escape through small gaps, pay particular attention to the fabric construction, stitching, and closure design. Where necessary, choose a container with a compatible inner liner or other suitable dust control features. However, standard Flexible Bulk Containers are not necessarily completely sealed, so their suitability for applications requiring a high degree of containment should be confirmed before use.

Before filling, carefully inspect the entire container. Check the fabric for holes, scratches, and wear, examine the seams for damage, and inspect the filling opening, discharge outlet, and associated connections for cracks or loose components. If the container has been used previously, check for residual materials to prevent contamination or mixing with the new contents. A container with visible damage, defective seams, or an incomplete closure system should not be used. Temporary covering alone is not an adequate solution to a leakage problem.

Controlling the filling rate is also important. If powder enters the container too quickly, it may generate excessive dust and place concentrated stress on certain areas of the fabric. This can increase the likelihood of powder escaping through openings or connections. The feed rate should therefore be adjusted according to the material properties and the performance of the filling equipment, allowing the process to proceed smoothly. For materials that generate significant dust, suitable enclosed filling equipment or dust collection systems can help limit the spread of airborne particles. Unnecessary friction or impact between the filling equipment and the container should also be avoided.

During filling, keep the container stable and avoid allowing the material to accumulate excessively on one side. Uneven loading may place excessive stress on localized areas, increasing the risk of seam damage and leakage. When support frames, pallets, or lifting equipment are used to position the container, ensure that they are compatible with its design and follow the applicable operating procedures. The amount of material loaded must also remain within the container's permitted load capacity. Do not exceed the specified loading limits to improve filling efficiency.

Finally, establish a suitable inspection and maintenance system for Flexible Bulk Containers. Inspect the fabric, seams, filling opening, and discharge outlet before and after each use. Clean and store the container according to the characteristics of the material it carries. For reusable containers, confirm that their structural condition and cleanliness meet the requirements of the next application. Selecting a suitable container, controlling the filling process, securing all openings, and conducting regular inspections can significantly reduce powder leakage, improve workplace cleanliness, and minimize material loss.
